PhD Programme Tables
Detailed
information regarding doctoral positions, research topics, scholarships,
specific requirements, and assessment criteria can be found in the PhD
Programme Tables. These tables serve as a supplement to the Call for
Applications and are accessible on the University's website. To access the
relevant table for the PhD programme you are interested in, please select the
programme, click on "More Information," and then choose "PhD
Programme Table."
Please note
that the number of positions and scholarships may be increased if additional
funding becomes available. Any amendments, updates, or additions to the
Programme Table will be published on the University's website, even after the
Call for applications has expired. Additional PhD positions, if available, will
be integrated into the PhD Programme Tables up to ten days before the oral
examination.
In the event
that agreements between the University and external institutions for the
funding of PhD scholarships are not signed by October 20th, 2023, the positions
covered by those scholarships will not be assigned.

Admission Requirements
Applicants,
regardless of age and citizenship, are eligible to participate in the selection
procedure if they hold at least one of the following degrees:
a) Laurea
Magistrale, Magistrale a ciclo unico, or Laurea Specialistica (Italian
Second-Cycle Degree);
b) Laurea di
Vecchio Ordinamento (pre-1999 reform);
c) A
Second-Cycle Degree awarded by academic institutions part of AFAM (Alta
Formazione Artistica e Musicale);
d) A
non-Italian Degree awarded by an academic institution, recognized as equivalent
to the above-mentioned second-cycle Italian degrees (letters a, b, c), solely
for the purpose of admission to a PhD programme at the University of Bologna.
Applicants who
have not yet obtained their Second-Cycle Degree may participate in the
selection procedure under the condition that they obtain their degree no later
than October 31st, 2023.
How To Apply
Application
The online
application must be submitted by June 20th, 2023, at 11.59 pm (CEST).
A non-refundable application fee of €5 must be paid before the aforementioned deadline using
the PagoPA system.
The
application should be submitted exclusively through the Studenti Online website.
First-time users of the application will need to register and will receive
their credentials, such as name.surname@studio.unibo.it. This email account
will be activated upon registration and will be the designated email for all
communication related to the admission procedure. It is important to use this
account when contacting any University office. To protect the applicants'
privacy, University administrative offices will not respond to emails sent from
accounts other than name.surname@studio.unibo.it.
Applicants who
already have these credentials should use them to apply. If the credentials
have not been used for a long time, a recovery procedure is available on the University's website. It should
be noted that applicants who have previously participated in a selection
procedure or have been enrolled in an academic programme at the University of Bologna
already possess the credentials name.surname@studio.unibo.it. Therefore, a new
registration with the same personal data is not possible, and the recovery
procedure for the previous credentials must be followed. It is advisable to
apply for admission well in advance of the deadline.
To submit the
application, applicants should:
Access Studenti Online and log in
using their credentials.
Select
"Admission application" and follow the online procedure. The €5
application fee must be paid at this stage of the admission procedure using the
PagoPA system.
Fill in the
first part of the application form to access the attachment upload section.
Applicants can access their application multiple times to complete or modify it
before submission.
Upload the
required documents
Documents Required
To apply for
the PhD programme, you will need to submit the following documents:
a) Scanned
valid ID with photograph (both sides).
b) Curriculum
Vitae (CV): Please refer to the relevant PhD programme table for specific
instructions regarding the language and format of your CV.
c) Documents*
that verify the completion and awarding of your first and second-cycle degrees.
These documents should include the following information:
Name of the
awarding institution.
Type of
degree, such as laurea specialistica/magistrale, magistrale a ciclo unico,
vecchio ordinamento, or an equivalent second-cycle degree as specified in Art.
2.
Name of the degree
programme.
"Classe
di laurea" (only for degrees awarded in Italy).
Date on which
the degree was awarded.
Final mark.
Academic
transcript of records, including a comprehensive list of the exams taken and
their corresponding marks. Please indicate the related CFU or ECTS (if provided
by the education system in which the degree was awarded).
"Media
ponderata dei voti degli esami" (weighted average, applicable only for
degrees awarded in Italy).
If you have
not yet obtained your second-cycle degree by the application deadline, you must
provide an academic transcript of records that includes the full list of exams
taken and their related marks (weighted average, applicable only for graduate
students enrolled in Italian universities).
For applicants
who have obtained their second-level degree from a university in an EU/non-EU
country and already possess the relevant document, the type of document
required depends on the university:
Italian Public
Universities: You can provide a self-certification** dated and signed,
attesting to the completion and awarding of the degree. University of Bologna
graduates can download the self-certification from Studenti Online.
EU/Non-EU
Universities: You should submit the certificate, transcript of records for both
the first and second-cycle degrees, or the Diploma Supplement, if available.
Additionally, you need to provide a document that verifies the authenticity and
level of the degree (e.g., Diploma Supplement, Dichiarazione di valore in loco
issued by the Italian Diplomatic Missions in the country where the diploma was
issued, Statement of Verification, and Statement of Comparability issued by an
ENIC-NARIC centre such as CIMEA).
Italian
Private Universities: You must provide the certificate or self-certification,
including all the necessary information outlined in the previous section, or
alternatively, the Diploma Supplement, if available. A document stating the
authenticity and level of the degree is also required.
Please note
that if you do not possess the required document at the time of application,
but you are selected for a position, you will need to provide the PhD Unit with
the necessary document within three months from the start date of the PhD
programme.
d) Further
supporting documents: Additional supporting documents may be required as
specified in the PhD Programme Table, which complements the Call for
Applications. You can find this information on the University website by
selecting the PhD programme you are interested in, clicking on "More
Information," and then accessing the "PhD Programme Table."
e) For
applicants who require an adaptation for the Admission test: If you need to
request an adaptation for the admission test, you must include a Request for
Adaptation Form and valid health documents.
For more
information regarding special arrangements and adaptations for the admission
examinations, please refer to Art. 4.2.
*Documents in
Italian or English will be considered valid and assessed by the Admission
